Delta and LOYTEC Deliver Integrated Operating Room Automation at Rigshospitalet University Hospital
Rigshospitalet Operating Rooms Rely on Delta LOYTEC Automation for Efficient Performance
“Every minute in the operating room counts. Even a slight system delay can impact the entire surgical process.”
I was involved in the construction of the North Wing of Denmark’s largest teaching hospital, Rigshospitalet. The hospital has over 1,100 beds and 8,000 staff, handling approximately 65,000 inpatient cases and 420,000 outpatient visits annually. In the new North Wing, operating rooms carry out highly complex surgeries every day, where reliability is crucial. Delta automation solutions became a key factor in ensuring smooth surgical operations.
Multi-System Integration and High-Risk Operation Challenges

The operating rooms at Rigshospitalet face multiple challenges:
- Multiple communication protocols and technical systems: Lighting, HVAC, ventilation, pressure differentials, shading, alarm systems, and medical device interfaces must be unified on a single platform.
- High-pressure surgical environment: Interfaces must be intuitive, clear, and easy to operate to minimize errors.
- Seamless multi-subsystem coordination: Systems must work together reliably in real time.
- 24/7 stability: The system must support continuous operation to maintain a safe and stable surgical environment.
“Every second counts in surgery, so the automation system must be 100% reliable.”
Customized Integrated Automation Control Platform
To meet the high flexibility and rapid adjustment needs of the North Wing operating rooms, Delta’s subsidiary LOYTEC partnered with global collaborator GH Connect to implement a fully customized automation solution.
Core Components:
- L-INX Automation Server: Core logic control supporting BACnet/IP and multiple protocol integration
- DALI Lighting Control: Precise dimming and adjustable color temperature optimized for surgical areas
- L-WEB / L-VIS Touch Interface: Integrates lighting, HVAC, ventilation, pressure, and shading into a single centralized display
- Integrated Ventilation, Temperature & Humidity, and Medical Device Interfaces: Ensures a clean, stable, and safe surgical environment
“Medical staff no longer need to operate multiple devices—everything can be adjusted right at the surgical table, reducing human error and improving efficiency.”
Intelligent Automation Enhances Medical Efficiency and Safety

LOYTEC’s open automation platform significantly improves operating room efficiency and reliability:
- Intuitive graphical interface: Surgeons and nurses can quickly control the environment
- Reduced dependence on highly skilled technicians: Simple operation and short training cycles
- Supports multi-protocol integration: Compatible with complex medical environments, including standard and non-standard protocols
- High operational reliability: Ensures stable and safe operating rooms even under high-pressure conditions
Project Highlights:
| System Function | Benefits |
|---|---|
| Lighting and Color Temperature | Precise illumination reduces surgical errors |
| HVAC and Ventilation | Provides stable and comfortable environment |
| Pressure Differentials & Shading | Prevents contamination, maintains sterility |
| Medical Device Interfaces | Seamless connection to surgical tables and other equipment |
“The North Wing project demonstrates how intelligent buildings adapt to medical staff, rather than forcing staff to adapt to the building.”
